With a little less than a week before online voting ends for Second Chance Network’s bid for $100,000 in the Pepsi Refresh Project, the local volunteer pet shelter needs every vote it can scrounge out of the Dryden area and beyond before, Oct. 31.
For weeks the local proposal has been trading the number one spot in the nation with a spay and neuter program in Windsor/Essex County, ON, and as of press time Dryden’s Second Chance remains in second place.
Only the top ranked project will receive funding.
Triple F Pet Supply’s Anne Owens hopes the community will come together for one more amazing push to the finish line after what has been a remarkable effort.
“It’s just so wonderful to see, Dryden and the whole area pulling for this like crazy, “ said Owens. “We’re a bit worried, but you can only do what you can do. We didn’t know we had this kind of support. It gives you strength during those bad days when you get too many calls and you can’t take the animals. People in this area know we need that shelter and we need it bad.”
Owens would like to remind voters to be careful in registering their vote as there has been some confusion with the website and she suspects many votes have gone uncounted.
She says the comments section on the Second Chance page is slowing the process down and some votes are being missed.
She suggests a streamlined approach to voting.

Owens adds voters should watch their ‘vote counters’ to ensure that their vote registered with the website.
“Don’t give up and keep pushing,” she says. “Watch your vote counter! If you’re going through all the effort of doing it, you want to make sure your vote is counted.”
