The Dryden Regional Health Services Foundation has kicked off their campaign to purchase a new ultrasound machine.
Opening the campaign with a special celebration, many service clubs were on hand to start off the donation process.
The Dryden Lions Club donated $10,000, Vermillion Bay Lions Club donated $5,000 and the Dryden Trillium Lions Club donated another $10,000. Although the cheque was not ready at this time, the Lions Club International will match the donations, to come to a grand total of $50,000 donated from the various Lions groups.
John Gillon, who recently passed away, had left an additional $5000 in his will to the Dryden Lions, and requested that it be used on a hospital project. This money has been donated to the purchase of the new machine as well.
Added to that was another $25,000 from Dryden Rotary bringing the grand total for the day to $80,000.
The Foundation has received a quoted cost of $180,000 for the new machine, which includes a built-in service contract agreement.
The first ultrasound machine was purchased in 1984, and with technology changing daily, the current ultrasound technology is fast approaching the end of its operational life. An upgrade is needed to ensure our patients and physicians have access to the best diagnostic tools available.
New transducer technology allows better visualization and image quality for interpretation and diagnosis.
