The Dryden Ice Dogs see 11 new players in the lineup, with four players unable to dress for the first game due to suspensions and issues with paperwork.Starting out a series of three home games, the Dryden Ice Dogs took on the Fort William North Stars to open the season with the first regulation home game.
With the score not indicative of the actual game, the Ice Dogs played a high hitting, back and forth, up and down the ice game. With a fnal score of 5 – 2 for the North Stars, Ice Dogs newcomer Ian Perrier managed to stop 21 of 26 shots on net.
North Stars goalie, Guillaume Piche managed to stop 17 of 19 shots on goal and proved to be a very defensive game for the North Stars.
Ice Dogs Ben McClellan saw the first goal of the night for the Dryden team in the second period, with Conner Foster would get the second goal during a power play in the third period.
Friday, September 17 saw the Ice Dogs take on the Duluth Clydesdales with a first home game win of 4 – 1 over the new expansion team.
With the Ice Dogs accomplishing two goals in the first period scored by Jon Mitchell and Thomas Greene respectively. The second period saw no scoring for either team, but the third saw goals by both teams. Goal three was scored by Ryan Lobreau and the fourth goal of the game can be credited to Brendan Wertanen.
Duluth managed to see the scoreboard with a power play goal just before the buzzer sounded to end the game.
The Ice Dogs finished off their weekend with a win over the Wisconsin Wilderness, with a win of 2 – 1 over the challengers.
With tempers flaring early in the game, spectators got a great game full of hits, fights, pressure and checking.
With the first goal going to Jon Mitchell in the second period, the final and winning goal was scored by Ben McLellan, both on the powerplay.
