Dryden has seen many dignitaries come through town lately, with the most recent being the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, The Honourable David C. Onley.
Along with Onley was Mr. Greg Rickford, MP for the Kenora/Rainy River District and the Honourable Ken Dryden, MP York Centre.
As this is the Lieutenant Governors first visit to our city, Dryden residents came out to show their community support during the opening ceremonies of the Homecoming Celebrations.
“I’ve been very impressed, and very pleased to have been invited in the first place,” said Onley.
The Lieutenant Governor has expressed that he has wanted to visit this part of the country for some time now, but due to time and circumstances, has not been able to visit our neighbourhood.
“When the invitation came to be a part of this official Centennial and the homecoming week, it was very easy decision to make!” stated Onley.
With so many communities all becoming official in 1910, this is the eighth centennial celebration that Onley has participated in this year.
“The spirit of a community can stay very much the same for decades and decades, and when you read and learn about the history of communities and where they came from, you see where that spirit really started,” says Onley.
Onley has taken in a dinner at the Riverview Lodge, the Eagle Lake Pow Wow, as well as a special centennial church service.
