Faye Besyk, 75, passed away Monday June 21, 2010 at the Dryden Regional Health Centre, after a year and a half battle with lung cancer.
Faye was born near Tisdale, Saskatchewan to the late Bob and Lillian Schell. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother, Lloyd Schell, and a sister, Marie Favot and also by a son-in-law, Marty Vanderaa.
Her family moved to Dryden from Saskatchewan when she was a child, where her family owned and operated a Bake Shop. Faye grew up in Dryden where she attended both Public and High School. In her late teens she lived in Sioux Lookout and worked at Clarks Cafe. When returning to Dryden she began working in the Finishing Room at the Dryden Paper Mill, where she met her husband Bert. They married and as they began their family they both left the Paper Mill and began working together at their family business, in which they operated for the next fifty years.
Until her illness she remained working in the office of their business, Bert’s Auto Wrecking. It made her happy to know that their business was into its third generation, when their Grandson began to work with them. She was a hard working woman who put her entire life into her work.
In her earlier years Faye enjoyed sports, as she bowled weekly and played ladies fastball for Oxdrift, for many years. She found enjoyment in traveling to Casinos with family and friends, but never venturing too far from home.
Faye is survived by her husband of fifty-three years, Bert and her three children, Linda (Fred) Sombrutski, Brian (Mary) Besyk and Vicki (Dan) Dorie. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Melissa Vanderaa, Rocky (Deanna) Besyk, Holly Besyk, Matt Dueck and Jen Dueck. Survived also by her brother Clayton (Pauline) Schell, of Dryden and a sister-in-law Sandra Schell of Thunder Bay, and by numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving are extended family from Manitoba, her brothers and sisters in-law and their families.
A Funeral Service was held on Monday June 28, 2010 at the Dryden Community Funeral Home, in Dryden, Ontario with Velma Henderson officiating. In lieu of flowers, if desired memoriam donations may be made to The Tamarack House or the Second Chance Pet Network Dryden, through the Dryden Community Funeral Home 249 Grand Trunk Ave., Dryden, On. P8N 2X3.
The family wishes to acknowledge and thank all of those who visited Faye and for the flowers and gifts that had always put a smile on her face during her stay in hospital and to Dr. Loutitt for her continued care, Dr. Cortens for his visits, which brightened Mom’s day and to the nurses who assisted her with care.
