News — 27 July 2010
Saturday, July 25 was Eat Local Day and the City, with the help of the Northwestern Health Unit and the Cloverbelt Farmers’ Market, encouraged Drydenites to treat themselves to a meal filled with local ingredients.
With the Farmers’ Market coming into Dryden on July 22 and the regular Saturday morning Farmer’s Market on July 24 at the Oxdrift Hall, locals had a number of opportunities to fill up on local produce and meat if they weren’t already growing their own garden.
This week, the Farmers’ Market and the NWHU are looking for recipes made from local ingredients. The challenge was to create a meal with at least three local ingredients and to send the recipe in to be judged.
Recipes must be submitted by July 30 by e-mail, Facebook or by filling out an entry form.
Forms can be picked up from the Eat Local Day Dryden Facebook page or www.cloverbeltfarmersmarket.ca, the NWHU, Community Matters (56 King St.), Dryden Pool and Fitness Centre or the Dryden Public Library.
For more information, contact Jessica at 223-7378 or Stephanie at 223-3301. Winners will be drawn at the July 31 Farmers’ Market in Oxdrift.
