Obituaries — 16 June 2010

It is with sad hearts we announce the sudden passing of our brother, uncle and friend John Gillon.

John was born in Ottawa on October 16, 1946.  John moved with his family from Fort Frances to Winnipeg in 1960 where he finished school and then received his degree in Economics at the University of Manitoba.  John then started a career with the Federal Government.

John moved to Dryden in 1975 where he resided and led a very active, full life.  He was a founding member of the Ghost Lake Riders Mountain Bike Club, Oxdrift Volunteer Fire Department, Treasurer of the Dryden Lion’s Club and an active member of the Roman Catholic Church.  His hobbies were many, bike racing, racquetball, swimming, mountain biking, piano, cooking and entertaining.

Volunteering was an integral part of John’s life, quietly influencing the people around him.  When you needed a friend to talk with John was ready to listen.  Everything that John chose to be involved with he poured his heart into.  If you needed something to be done all you had to do was ask and John would make it happen.

John was predeceased by his father Douglas and mother Joyce Gillon.

Mourning his passing are brothers Donald (Lucie), Robert (Lise) and sister Sheila (Robert) Marr; nieces and nephews, Racheal, Bruce, Matthew, Joyce, Jeffrey and Marc.

A special thanks to his many friends and working associates for all their support and friendship.

Donations can be made on behalf of John, to the Oxdrift Fire Department, Dryden Lion’s Club or a charity of your choice may be made through the Stevens Funeral Home, P.O. Box 412, Dryden, ON P8N 2Z1.

Condolences may be emailed to sympathycard@shaw.ca subject: Gillon.
