Obituaries — 15 June 2010

Evan Jones died on March 24, 2010 in Palm Desert, California at age 88.

He was predeceased by his wife Julie (Romat), his sisters Barbara Hampe and Gwen Davidson and step-mother Agnes Henderson (Grannie Jones).

He is survived by one niece and five nephews; Lesley Serkoak (David), Brian Davidson (Fatima), Bill Hampe (Donna), Owen Davidson (Wendy), Bob Hampe (Carmene), Ross Davidson, and all of their children. He is also survived by his friend Giselle, (Billie) Unger. He will be missed by the Romat, Hrankowski and Henderson families, of whom he was very fond.

Evan Alastair was born in Dryden on August 8, 1921, to Anne (Williamson) and William “Pop” Jones.

Evan was a veteran of WWII, serving in Italy with the Medical Corps. After the war, he worked in various departments of the Dryden Paper Company. His wife Julie opened the Brite Spot restaurant, which he assisted in running. They left Canada in the early 60’s, for California, where he worked for the Kimberly Clark Paper Company. He rose to a position of top sales person for the company, his territory being most of western North America.

Evan and Julie lived in Fullerton, California until Julie’s death. He later moved to the Palm Springs area where he continued to welcome visits from his family and friends.

Evan enjoyed keeping up to date with the happenings in Dryden. He especially liked the Dryden Centennial book, and gave copies to many of his family. He was a hockey fan and he closely followed the Pronger boys’ careers. He was a life-long member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Dryden branch.

Evan’s ashes were interred beside his beloved wife, Julie in Whittier, California.

A celebration of Evan’s life will be held on Sunday, June 13th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Dryden Community Funeral Home.
