It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Barb in the evening of June 4th at the Dryden Regional Health Centre, surrounded by her loving family.
Barb was born on September 18, 1938 in the Dryden Red Cross Hospital to Eva and James Oliphant.
As a young woman Barb met the love of her life, William in North Bay and they were eventually married in Dryden in April of 1957. They later had two children, a daughter Karen and a son Jeff.
Barb was very involved in her community. She was very active with the Girl Guides eventually becoming Commissioner in the Dryden area and is remembered for this role in the community. Most recently Barb spent many hours volunteering at Princess Court and the Dryden Go-getters Activity Centre.
Later in life Barb took up the game of golf with much passion and will be sadly missed by all her golfing friends. Barb enjoyed her weekly exercise group who would later gather for coffee and camaraderie.
Barb and her sister Dody were both fans of country music and would make frequent trips together to see their favourite country singers. We would be amiss not to mention Barb’s love of “the King” Elvis and his music.
Barb is survived by her loving husband William, her daughter Karen (Richard) of Winnipeg, Jeff (Debbie) of Dryden, her grandchildren Nicole (Collin) of Winnipeg, Carley, Justin, and Bryce who were the pride and joy of her life. Missing her also will be the family pet, “Willie”. She will be especially missed by her brother Pat (Gerry) Dryden, her sister Doreen/Dody (Barry) Winnipeg and their families. Also missing her will be many nieces and nephews. Barb will also be sadly missed by her extended family, the Robinsons, living in Eastern Ontario.
She was predeceased by her Mother and Father, brother Eric (Marg) and sister June (Jock Keith) Nelson, BC.
Cremation has taken place and a small, private family service was held at a later date.
If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Dryden Regional Health Centre Palliative Care Unit or Oncology Dept. or a charity of your choice through Stevens Funeral Homes, Moffat Chapel, Box 412, Dryden, Ontario P8N 2Z1.
