The province of Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is probing the circumstances surrounding the death of 25 year-old Dustin Rouillard in the early morning hours of May 12.

Rouillard had been held in the custody of the Dryden Police Service for a number of hours prior to being transported to Dryden Regional Health Centre by ambulance around 4:30 a.m.

An initial SIU press release states that Rouillard went into medical distress at the hospital and was pronounced dead at 6:16 a.m.

A postmortem examination was announced last week. Four investigators and one forensic investigator from the SIU are investigating the incident.
