Sept 2, 1935 – April 24, 2010

With heavy hearts, we said goodbye to a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother in the early evening hours of Saturday, April 24, 2010. Mona was born on September 2, 1935 in Norquay, SK. Growing up, the Matiece family lived in Danbury, SK and Sudbury, ON before they moved to Dryden, ON.

As a young girl, Mona was very active playing basketball, hockey and running track. She was very competitive in any sport she participated in. After graduating high school, Mona moved to Madsen, ON to teach school. While there, she met the love of her life, Ed and they married in the summer of 1954. After a year, they moved to Dryden and started their family. They had three children together, Shannon, Len and Lori. Mona worked as a partner with Ed in the family electrical business for many years until she took up golfing, curling and bridge. In her later years, quilting became Mona’s passion. Mona’s other interests included bridge, needle point and the Red Hats.

Mona took pride in her grandchildren and great grandchildren which was evidenced by her participation in their activities and Grama’s Brag Book.

Mona and Ed loved camping, fishing and had many adventures outdoors with their family and good friends. They traveled extensively before and during retirement, going throughout Canada and the United States in their fifth wheel trailer. Winters in Florida and Palm Springs spending time with friends and golfing. Mona loved to travel and recent cruises through the Panama Canal and up the Amazon River added to their adventures.

Mona is survived by her loving husband Ed, daughter Shannon (Jim) Boyko, son Len (Joanne) Kusnick, and daughter Lori (Mel) Kutney, six grandchildren, Arin Boyko (Blair), Jennifer Boyko (Michael), Chelsea Kusnick, Stephanie Kusnick (Shaun), Megan Kutney (Michael) and Josh Kutney, and two great grandchildren Sophie and Luka Prepp. Mona is also survived by her brother, Alex Matiece (Louise), sister Eve Kusnick (Len) and brother Larry (Jean) Matiece. Mona will also be missed by other family members. Mona was predeceased by her parents Peter and Rose Matiece.

A celebration of Mona’s life was held on Thursday, April 29, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the First United Church.
