The Eagles were unable to repeat last year’s NWOSSA badminton result and clinch a spot at OFSAA but they did make a presence in the medal standings.
The tournament was held at the Atikokan High School on April 26.
Senior girls’ singles’ player, Callie Graboski, finished a solid third place, one spot shy of guaranteeing a spot at OFSAA.
Coach Lorna Tremonti says the competition was fierce and that Graboski performed well.
“The senior competition was tough. All of the teams were within points of each other. There was great caliber of play in singles this year.”
Junior mixed doubles’ players Emilie Gardam and Darian Jordens fell just shy of the medal standings, earning a fourth place finish but Tremonti says their improvement throughout the day was great to see. Tremonti adds that the two will be a dominant team in the future.
Junior players can earn medals at NWOSSA but no OFSAA championships are held for junior teams.
The top two finishes in all senior categories move on to the OFSAA championships in Stratford, ON May 6-8.
