Kenora MP, Greg Rickford, presented Dryden Entertainment Series (DES) with funding in the amount of $10,000 on Tuesday, May 18. The Government of Canada has provided the funding through the Canadian Arts Presentation Fund.
Chair of DES, Angie Bujold was on hand to gratefully receive the announcement of funding.
“The prices keep rising for the artists, but we want to keep the price low for the community. We don’t want this to be elitist. We want this to be accessible to most people in the community,” says Bujold. “This kind of funding is so important to us in order to continue.”
Rickford feels that Dryden is very deserving of the funding, and says the government feels proud to partner with the local communities. This funding will enable residents the opportunity to experience and value professional artistic experiences.
“This volunteer, non-profit organization works in partnerships with sponsors and individuals in providing the community with the opportunity to enjoy a variety of different kinds of performing arts, that we feel we don’t get to see here unless we head to the big city,” says Rickford.
Rickford wants the public to realize that the Government does play an important role in a variety of activities that go well beyond the big infrastructure plans like highway twinnings and water treatment plants.
