With kids from all around the district, 75 projects were displayed and judged at the Regional Heritage Fair on May 6th. New Prospect School in Dryden hosted 98 kids from all across Keewatin-Patricia District School Board, as well as the Northwest Catholic District School Board. The kids all ranged from grades 4 to 8, and had projects that were local, provincial and nationwide.
All projects were based on Canadian history, and could cover any topic of their choice. Presentations could be done with creative writing, display boards, or dramatizations. Children dressed to match their topic, and the enthusiasm for their work was astounding.
With the cancellation of the provincial and national competitions, the Keewatin-Patricia District Regional Fair decided to add two extra awards of excellence to students.
“It’s a good mix-up from the science fairs, and the kids really get into it” says Joe Hart, one of the main organizers.
With 8 judges, the kids were judged on a large variety of creative processes. Some judging took place on knowledge of facts, significance, the use of a variety of sources, thoroughness, bibliography, visual displays, and originality.
