Margot Woodworth took her online business to new heights as she successfully auditioned for the highly rated CBC show Dragon’s Den.
Woodworth owns Evergreen Memories, an eco-friendly business that deals with gifts for all occasions. The “green gifts” include seedlings, trees, jewellery, and green stationary, all wrapped in recyclable or bio-degradable material.
Woodworth bought the business five years ago and has expanded sales all over Canada and the United States and is looking for help from the Dragons to market and expand her business.
“We just thought our business was right at this time and we thought it would be a really great idea to try it out because you never know until you try. Offering eco-friendly, creative gift ideas, shipping all across Canada and the U.S., we thought we had a pretty good shot and we’d give it a try anyway.”
Woodworth and two of her employees, Lisa Schmidt and Merrill Kluke, headed to Thunder Bay on April 8 for the live auditions for the Dragon’s Den. The three pitched their business to the producers and within a few days, were told they had made the cut.
“The auditions are very close to being on the show. The producers ask you questions that the Dragons would ask you on the show and the audition is taped. We were thrilled right after just for doing the live audition.”
Although the details of the proposed deal is to remain confidential until after the show airs next season, Woodworth is very confident she can strike a deal with at least one of the Dragons. With her green products and packaging and the fact that everything is grown locally through Tamarac Nurseries should be huge selling points for the Dragons.
The team adds that if they are successful, the ripple effect should be felt in Dryden, with one of their main goals being to create more employment opportunities for the city.
