Obituaries — 20 April 2010

At the unfair age of 64, Jim quietly passed away at home in the tender and loving care of his family.
Jim was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, son of Everett and Peggy Kerr.
He spent his entire life pursuing and caring for the things he loved most… his family, his dental patients, boating in Desolation Sound, any adventure, and of course creating and tending to his “horse heaven” Country Lane Stables.
Jim graduated from the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg Dental School and truly loved his chosen profession.  He deeply missed his patients when his health no longer allowed him to work. He always placed his patients first, and with his humour and gentle hands made the smiles of countless people that much brighter.  Jim liked to remind everyone “You don’t have to floss all your teeth, only the ones you want to keep.”
Jim adored and was loved in return by his devoted wife of 28 years, Linda, and his four daughters, Jenny, Joey, Marla and Janelle.  He taught them how to laugh, love, tie knots, and live each day well.  They in turn taught him the infinite patience that only a man surrounded by women can learn.
Jim was predeceased by his father, Everett Kerr, and is survived and terribly missed by his wife, Linda, mother Peggy Kerr, brother John (June) Kerr, Coldstream, B.C.; sister Patti (Barry) Goodby, Dryden, Ontario; daughters Marla (Mike) Vance, Courtenay; Jenny (Jim) Nappo, Mountain View, California; Janelle (Jonathan) Spitler, Monterey, California; Joey (Greg) McKay, Courtenay.  Jim will also be sadly missed by grandchildren Jonah, Jayna, Courtenay, and Taylor as well as nieces Jaime and Jenna, along with countless friends, as well as the horses and hounds who were such a big part of Jim’s day.
Special thanks for the support of many family and friends, home care personnel, Dr. Musgrave, Dr. Bogue, and dear friends Dave and Barbara Mellin.
Cremation is entrusted to Piercy’s Funeral Home and will be followed by a life celebration at a date yet to be determined.  No funeral will be held at Jim’s request.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Children’s Hospital.  To make donations go to: https://secure.bcchf.ca/donate/general.cfm
