Reta Northcott – August 6, 1930 – November 2, 2009

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Reta Northcott on November 2, 2009 at the age of 79 after a short but very courageous battle with cancer.
Reta was born on August 6, 1930 in Dryden, daughter of Mary and Charlie Wilton.  She spent her younger years in Dryden and moved to Hornepayne after marrying the love of her life, Keith Northcott. They spent many happy years raising their six children there. They moved back to Dryden in the early 1970s due to Keith’s failing health.
Reta was fiercely independent and continued to raise her family, working and continuing with her volunteer activities that were so important to her. Reta was a longtime member of the Royal Canadian Legion, The Loyal Order of the Moose, The Go Getters often serving on the executive. She volunteered for many associations including the Red Cross Donor Clinic, Hip Hip Hooray and many others.
Mom loved her social life with her many close friends at 10 Victoria Street and the Go-Getters.  The best day of the week was Friday. Reta loved meat draw night at the Legion and enjoyed going dancing at The Central after that. She loved to tell her family many a good story from those nights. Her friends there were near and dear to her heart.
Reta’s greatest pride was her family. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and family get-togethers.  Every Christmas every one of 15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren received a gift from their Grandma.
Reta was predeceased by her husband Keith in 1974 and her parents Charlie and Mary Wilton.
She is survived by her six children Cherlye (Gerald), Rickey (Jenny), Wendy (Owen), Jeff (Shelley), Travis (Janet) and Valerie, by 15 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren with more on the way! As well as her sister Connie Gamble and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial funeral service was held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 63 on Friday, November 6th with Chaplain Mary Mennell officiating. Interment of ashes was held on the same day alongside her husband Keith.
If friends so desire, donations may be made though Stevens Funeral Homes “Moffat Chapel”, P.O. Box 412, Dryden, Ontario to Northern Cancer Research or the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 63 Dryden. Condolences may be emailed to sympathycard@shaw.ca subject: Northcott
We love you always Mom.
