Jo (Josephine Louise) Wilson, passed away peacefully at Princess Court on November 6, 2009.
She was born in Toronto on January 4th, 1921. After receiving her nursing diploma from Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children, she joined the Red Cross and moved to Dryden to work at the “old” Red Cross Hospital. It was in Dryden where she met and married her husband, the late Jim Wilson, and they began a life together lasting 59 years.
During their married life, Jo and Jim enjoyed an active life together. Her enjoyment in curling, golfing, fishing, snowmobiling and bridge gave her lasting memories with her dear friends.
Jo worked as a nurse at the Dryden District Hospital for 30 years. She was an active member of the Rebecca Lodge, Cancer Society, RNAO, Horticulture Society and First United Church Ladies Auxiliary. She was also past president of Unit 5, First United Church Auxiliary and life member of the Hospital for Sick Children.
Jo was predeceased by her husband, James Grey Wilson, her parents (Dr. and Mrs. Gordon Phillips), and brother (Jackie Phillips).
She is survived by two daughters, Leanna Bullock (Craig) and Judy Swanson (Jerry); four grandchildren, Krista Bullock (Jason Nephin), Candace Bullock (Jeff Nyberg), Kara Swanson (Scott Albright) and Collin Swanson; a great granddaughter (Grae Josephine Albright), a sister (Helen Phillips); brother-in-law and sister-in-law (Roy and Pat Wilson) and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial funeral service was held Tuesday, November 10th, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the First United Church with Alice Bloomfield officiating. Interment of ashes will take place in the Dryden Cemetery at a later date.
