Rosalie was born in Kenora to Alphonse and Regina Leydier on March 17, 1914, the sixth child in a family of 11. She completed high school in Kenora and was married to Robert H. Sharples in 1934, children Roberta and Richard followed. Along with her husband, she ran a tourist camp in the late ’50s and ’60s on Black Sturgeon Lake.
Through her life, she enjoyed gardening, fishing, knitting, reading and crossword puzzles. She also had great interest in her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Family and friends were priorities in her life.
She was predeceased by her parents, husband, three sisters, six brothers, three brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law.
Left to mourn her passing are her sister Eleanore Shegelski of Calgary, daughter Roberta Louttit, son Rick (Lorna), sisters-in-law Marg Rule, Phyllis Sharples and Joyce Leydier. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Heather (Peter) Cortens, Michael (Jan) Louttit, Dr. Patti Louttit (Jim Carter), Jennifer Louttit, Geoffrey (Nicole) Louttit, all of the Dryden area and 16 great grandchildren. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
In her memory, donations can be made to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation. Cremation has taken place and she will be interred, as per her wishes, at a later date.
A funeral mass was held at St. Joseph’s Church in Dryden, on Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009 at 10:00a.m., with Father Campeau officiating.
