Lucy died suddenly in Collingwood, ON, Friday, September 25th.
She is survived by her children, Richard (Gael) of Dryden, Beverly (Ditmar Maurer) of Collingwood and Joanne (Fred Morton) of Edmonton; by three grandchildren, Colin Kusano, Samantha Maurer and Katrina Maurer; her great-grandson, Michael Kusano; sisters Kiyo, Fran, Marie and Sue and brothers Aki, Jim and Ken.
She was predeceased by her husband Duke, daughter Joyce, sister Ti Tsuji and brother Joe Koyanagi.
Lucy was kind, generous and loving. She was never critical and always saw the good side in everyone and everything, never complaining. She was a good sport and a very active lady who loved to golf, played badminton for many years, loved her bridge afternoons and could be found in the yard with her grandchildren doing almost anything that involved sports. While in Collingwood at Beverly’s she went to Tai Chi, swam at the YWCA and went to play badminton, despite the effects of a stroke. At the time of her death she was playing badminton in the back yard with her granddaughter. Her great-grandson introduced her as “my good friend “Grandma Lucy” – she was always up for a race around the house or a good game of hide-and-seek.
Lucy was very much loved and we will all miss her.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service was held on Friday, October 2nd at First United Church, with Alice Bloomfield officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Taoist Tai Chi Society, 58 George Street, Collingwood, ON L9Y 2E4 (for the “Lucy’s Lift” fund) or a charity of choice through Stevens Funeral Homes, P.O.
