webAppelIt is with sadness the family of Arnold Alfred Appel announces his passing at the Red Lake Margaret Cochenour Memorial Hospital with his loved ones at his side on August 31.
Arnold Alfred Appel was born at the family home in Vermilion Bay, ON on September 17, 1932. He was educated at Vermilion Bay and Dryden followed by a 34 year career as a power lineman with Ontario Hydro. A man of few words and a great sense of humour describe this gentle man. He stood for honesty and hard work, and was proud of all his grandchildren. Arnold enjoyed trapping and picking blueberries. He was a member of Ontario Hydro Retirees, Ear Falls Hunters and Anglers, and Whispering Pines Seniors club. He attended Ear Falls Chapel, and supported numerous missions projects.
He is survived by Joyce, his loving wife of 52 years, children Allen (Barbara) and her son Jake of London, ON, Allen’s son David (grandson Jacob) and Arnold’s daughter-in-law Rita, of St. Thomas, son Brian (Kim) and grandchildren Aaron, Zachary, Alyssa, and Hayley of Ottawa, daughter Karen (Jim) Powell, Shane and Kristina, of Ear Falls. He is also survived by sisters Gertie Friesen and Agnes (Don) of Dryden, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Arnold was predeceased by his parents Henry and Paulina, sisters Irene and Dora (Carpenter), Freda McDonald, Martha, Montey and brother Henry.
A celebration of his life was held at the Ear Falls Chapel Thursday, September 3rd at 2 p.m. Visitation was held from 1 to 2 p.m. Interment followed in the Ear Falls Cemetery. Service was officiated by Rev. Audrey Hazelwood and long-time friend Harry Toews.
The family wishes to thank staff at the Ear Falls Clinic, ambulance service, and the Red Lake MCM Hospital and Comcare. The family also appreciates the many friends who gave their loving support through seven years with Alzheimer’s and a brief journey with cancer.
