It is with great sadness that his family announces the passing of a proud, loving gentle man, Albert “Batch” Batchelor, on August 19th, 2009.
Batch was predeceased by his first wife Florence, “Flo”, 1982; by his parents, brothers and sisters and his stepson Rick Kellar.
He is survived by his son Barry (Carol) and his grandson Michael, and nieces and nephews. By his wife Helen and families.
At the young age of 71, he courted and entered into a wonderful marriage with Helen (Gamble-Kellar), in 1989. This union brought an extended family of Helen’s two sons, Bill (Adrienne), Rick; two daughters, Linda (Ben) and Ann (Dan) and the joy of his life his many step-grandchildren. He was loved and respected by all and very proud to be called “Dad” and “Papa.” He will be missed, not forgotten, by all.
Batch was born in Burnaby, England, 1917.
He was an honoured WWII Veteran and wore that distinction proudly.
Batch also held the prestigious distinction of being a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for more than sixty years.
He was “The” bartender for all functions held at and by the Legion. His laughter could be heard above the loudest dance music. He will be remembered for his playful joking, quick wit but most of all for his skills on the dance floor. He shared his kindness with everyone. He was a gentle giant, in size and heart.
The families wish to extend their thanks to all those who sent their condolences, cards, flowers and visits. A special thank you to Dr. Cortens for your many years of wonderful care to Batch. To all hospital staff and ambulance drivers, thank you. To the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 63 and the Ladies Auxiliary, Branch 63 for providing the Honour Guard and the excellent lunch. Thank you to Dryden Community Funeral Home for all they did to ease this hard time.
Donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 63 Building Fund, through Dryden Community Funeral Home.
