After a long and brave struggle with her health, Ursula Eunice Maggrah (nee Cook) went to be with her Lord on July 10, 2009.
Ursula was born on January 1, 1922 in Schreiber, Ontario to James and Mary Cook. The family moved to the Dryden area when she was just a child, and it was there that she grew up and met her future husband, Gordon Maggrah.
Ursula and Gordon were married on February 28, 1942, and moved to Wabigoon to start their new life together. There they raised their five children, and kept very busy at their jobs and in the community. Ursula began working at the Dryden Tree Nursery in Wabigoon when it first started operating, and she never stopped working hard until her retirement at age 75. She regularly attended the Tree Nursery luncheons, and was an active member of the Canadian Order of Foresters.
As the years went on, Ursula and Gordon would travel out west to visit family and also made some fun trips into the United States. She loved tending her yard, especially the flowers and kept her hands busy in the winter by knitting for her family. She and Gordon were beautiful dancers. People would stop and step back just so they could watch the couple on the dance floor. And of course you could always find her at their special table on Friday nights at the Dryden Legion meat draw. Ursula will always be remembered by family and friends for her strong will and her gentle heart.
Ursula was predeceased by her parents, James and Mary Cook; her sisters Rita and Nora; her brother Jim and her infant son Randall.
Her memory will be forever cherished by her husband of 67 years, Gordon; her daughters Sheila (Ed) Engel, Sharon Maggrah, Lana (Jerry) Sinclair, and Linda Maggrah, as well as her son Gordon Lorne Ben (Maxine) Maggrah. She leaves to mourn her grandchildren Don (Tanya) Engel, Donna (Stan) Huitikka, Lorna (Warren) Kettering, Michele Engel and Jamie Wilson, Bunty (Wally) Maggrah, Shelly (Matt) Fowler, Sherry Zoccole, Benny (Layla) Zoccole, Shannon Niemi, Tana (Kent) Nixon, Keenan (Shannon) Sinclair, and Jesse Maggrah, as well as six step grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 15 step great grandchildren and one great-great grandson, Kaedyn Mackenzie. She will also be missed by her sister Phoebe, and numerous nieces and nephews.
If love could have saved you, you would have lived forever.
Pallbearers were Donald Engel, Benny Zoccole, Jesse Maggrah, Keenan Sinclair, Devon Zoccole, and Michael Galeotafiore. Honorary pallbearers were Stephan Zoccole, Brett Huitikka, Kevin Engel, and Austin McKinstry.
In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to the charity of your choice through the Dryden Community Funeral Home.
