It is with great sorrow, the family announces the sudden death of Luigi Zappitelli.
He was born in Compobasso, Italy on July 7, 1929. He immigrated to Montreal in 1949. In 1954 he moved to Ignace with his wife and two sons.
Luigi worked for CPR followed by Great Lakes Paper until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, doing repairs in his garage, making wine and playing cards. His greatest passions were spending time with family and friends, especially his (FBI) friends from the States. Luigi helped many people throughout the years. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for many years.
Luigi will be greatly missed by his wife of 60 years, Maria; son Frank (Marilyn); grandsons Mark, Andrew, and Jonathon; grandson Wesley (Kelly); great grandsons Brody and Carson and grandson Mitchell Zappitelli; daughter Erma (Peter) Watkins, Ryan; daughter Joyce (Steve) Humphrey, Brent, Allan, and Alicia. One sister Christina of Montreal, as well as numerous relatives and friends in Canada, U.S.A. and Europe.
Luigi was predeceased by his beloved son Michael in 2008, his parents, seven brothers and one sister.
Visitation followed by prayers were on Friday, May 29th, 2009 in Dryden at 7 p.m. at the Dryden Community Funeral Home.
Visitation was held at 11:00 a.m., followed by funeral services on Saturday, May 30th, 2009 in Ignace, ON at 12 noon at the Immaculate Church on Pine Street. Following the service, a luncheon was held at the Northwoods Motor Inn, Hwy 17E, Ignace, ON.
Luigi’s ashes will be laid to rest at a later date.
