websedgwick-betty-joyce1Betty Joyce Sedgwick passed away at LaVerendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances on April 4, 2009.
Betty was born in Minneapolis on August 4, 1922, the only child of Carl Henry and Emma Elizabeth (Comstock) Nelson. On September 17, 1942 she married John Sedgwick who predeceased her on May 28, 2003.
After the war, Betty and John moved to Port Huron, London, Haliburton and many places in between before settling in Dryden for many years. John and Betty used to joke that they were moving to find better hunting and fishing spots.
In 1969, they moved to Fort Frances where many happy times were spent at their cabin on Hopkin’s Bay. Betty was employed at the MNR for many years. Fondly known as ‘Sedgie’, Betty continued to enjoy her friendship with the MNR girls long after she retired in 1986. She also curled and enjoyed playing bridge and was a member of the Friends of Animals.
Betty’s family include Merribeth and Raymond McFarlane of Winnipeg, Margaret and Lawrence Wilton of Dryden, David and Margaret Sedgwick of Fort Frances; grandchildren Scott McFarlane, Vanessa and Joey Wilson, Hilary and Chris Turchinski and Eric Sedgwick; great granddaughters Diamond and Jade Wilson.
At Betty’s request there will be no memorial service. Memorial donations may be made to the Building for the Future Campaign for the Fort Frances Public Library, 363 Church St. Fort Frances, ON.
