Dorothy passed away peacefully at Tuxedo Villa Personal Care Home in Winnipeg on Monday, April 6, 2009 at the age of 83 years.
She is survived by her sons, Ron, Thunder Bay and Bryan (Susan) Winnipeg. She is also survived by her sisters Shirley Cragg (Bob), Clara Tuckey (Wilbert), Alice Greaves (Walter), Jessie Pinette; brother Norman (Audrey); sister-in-law Evelyn Shepherd and brother-in-law Len Weldon and many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was predeceased by her parents Hugh and Ella Dorland, husband Delwin, son Gordon, brother Frank, sister Della Hicks and brother-in-law Gilbert.
Dorothy was born May 7, 1925 in Oxdrift, Ontario. Schooled in Oxdrift and Dryden, she married Delwin Skene on November 6, 1943.
Dorothy lived in Dryden for all but the last seven months of her life. Here she raised her family and worked in various positions, retiring from the Post Office after 30 plus years of service. She then worked as Secretary at the First United Church for the next ten years.
Dorothy was a faithful member of the First United Church singing in the choir for most of her life. Dorothy was a devoted member of the Easter Lily Rebecca Lodge, holding positions of Secretary, Past District Deputy President and Past Noble Grand.
Dorothy was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles and knitting. She always enjoyed the company of her many cats over the years.

A Funeral Service was held Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the First United Church with Pastor Greg McKee officiating. Interment followed in the Dryden Cemetery. Visitation was held Monday from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. in the Stevens Funeral Homes “Moffat Chapel”.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dorothy may be made to the First United Church, DRHC CT Scan Fund, Tuxedo Villa PCH, or the charity of one’s choice through the Stevens Funeral Homes “Moffat Chapel” P.O.
