It is with heavy hearts the family announces the passing of Martha Murray, aged 74 years, in the Dryden Regional Health Centre on Tuesday, April 7, 2009.
Martha was born and raised in the municipality of Shellmouth, Manitoba. After she graduated from high school at the age of sixteen, she attended Normal School (Teacher’s College) over the summer months. In the fall, at the age of seventeen, she taught in a one room school house in Gilbert Plains, Manitoba.
She continued to teach school for the next 38 years until she retired in June of 1989.
One of Martha’s great loves was the game of golf. She met her life partner Ed Bowman on the Golf Course in Dryden and they golfed together for the next 20+ years. Martha enjoyed her leisure time and spent many years curling, golfing, and playing bridge with her circle of friends.
Martha was predeceased by her granddaughter Molly, her parents George and Zanfira Burla, four sisters and three brothers.
She is survived by her life partner Ed Bowman, daughter Debbie, sons Scott (Betty Lou) and Reid (Sheri), her grandson Calvin and granddaughter Alexandria.
A Service of Praise was held for Martha Murray on April 11 at 11:00 a.m. in the Russell Community Centre in Russell, Manitoba.
Interment of ashes will be in the St. Elijah’s Romanian Greek Orthodox Cemetery in Lennard, Manitoba at a later date.
There will be a Celebration of Martha’s life held in Dryden, Ontario at a later date.
