In loving memory of Edna Pearl Hales, age 79 years, who passed away at the Dryden Regional Health Centre on April 10th.
Born July 10, 1929 in Foleyet, ON to parents Gordon and Enid Armstrong, she was the oldest of five sisters. Her mother died young so she had to help raise her sisters along with her father and grandmother. Edna worked as a nanny for the James family of Sudbury prior to marriage.
She married Richard D. Hales on September 23, 1952 and moved to the Dryden area. She was employed by Clean More Service of Dryden for 17 years retiring in 1993.
In her younger years Edna was a member of the True Blue Lodge. She began bowling in the early 1970s and still bowled twice a week at the time of her death. She enjoyed gardening, travel, crosswords, knitting and crocheting, TV game shows and electronic Yahtzee.
Edna was predeceased by her parents, husband Richard and sisters Velma Laderoute and Evelyn Ferris.
Survived by daughters, Lois Finlayson of Oxdrift and Elaine Hales of Toronto; sons, Howard Hales of Dryden and Richard Hales of Toronto; son-in-law Douglas Finlayson; grandchildren Alex, Mindy, Beckie and Natasha Finlayson; sisters Elsie Boire and Agnes Hartley of Sudbury; cousin, Alvin Craig of Toronto, whom she thought of as a brother as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Edna were held Thursday, April 16th at 1:00 p.m. in the Stevens Funeral Homes “Moffat Chapel” with Lynn MacDonald officiating. Interment of ashes will take place at a later date. Visitation was held Tuesday from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. in the Stevens Funeral Homes “Moffat Chapel”.
